The Arizona Department of Gaming has issued an event wagering licence to Circa Sports, enabling the operator to launch in the state through a partnership with the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe. The approval follows the third licensing window, which ran from June 26 to July 10.
License Allocation and Market Expansion
The new licence brings the total number of approved sportsbooks in Arizona to 15. State regulations cap event wagering licences at 20, with allocations divided equally between federally recognised tribes and eligible sports organisations, venues, and their operating partners. Circa Sports already maintains retail locations in Illinois, Kentucky and Nevada, alongside digital platforms active in Colorado, Iowa, Missouri and Nevada. The ADG will open a dedicated licensing window for retail sportsbooks from August 13 to 27, offering up to 10 permits for operators collaborating with licensed racetracks or off-track betting facilities.FanDuel and DraftKings continue to hold the largest share of the Arizona market, accounting for more than half of the betting handle in May. The state recorded a monthly handle of $676.7m, a 4 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year, with online wagering representing $673.9m. DraftKings led with $199.7m, followed by FanDuel at $197.7m and Fanatics at $85.5m.
Arizona’s regulated sports betting sector has recorded approximately $35.3bn in total wagers and generated $190.6m in privilege fees since its 2021 launch.
